Clooney Considered Suicide After Injury In 2005
First Published: November 11, 2011 3:56 PM EST Credit: Rolling Stone LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Caption George Clooney appears on the November 11, 2011 issue of Rolling StoneGeorge Clooney has revealed that he once considered taking his own life due to the pain he sustained from a movie stunt injury. In 2005, while filming Syriana (a film which earned him a Best Supporting Actor Oscar), the actor suffered a spinal injury, one that was so severe he contemplated suicide due to the pain. I was at a point where I thought, I cant exist like this. I cant actually live, the actor recalled in the current issue of Rolling Stone, hitting newsstands today. I was lying in a hospital bed with an IV in my arm, unable to move, having these headaches where it feels like youre having a stroke, and for a short three-week period, I started to think, I may have to do something drastic about this, Clooney continued. You start to think in terms of, you dont want to leave a mess, so go in the garage, go in the car, start the engine. It seems like the nicest way to do it, but I never thought Id get there. See, I was in a place where I was trying to figure out how to survive. Much has since changed for the 50-year-old actor, who is currently starring in The Ides of March, with Ryan Gosling and has The Descendants, opening on November 16. According to Clooney, the latter movie is bound for some Oscar love. If its not nominated for Best Picture, Ill be shocked. Its that good, he told the mag. As for current girlfriend Stacy Keibler, the usually private actor said hes fine with her having an active Twitter account. She can do whatever she wants, he said. I rarely tell anybody what they should be doing with their life. Copyright 2011 by NBC Universal, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
